Smile I only went in the Tjampuan

as I went walkabout looking for a room in that area. That was a few years back was I was totally unimpressed. Maybe they have improved the room quality since then. We ended up renting a sweet studio just literally a few doors down the road (towards Ubud) from Murnis. It was owned by one of the little shop owners there. I have never seen it advertised anywhere, so it may not exist for rent still, but just went to prove again to me that it pays to physically look around and that going on regular tourists' reports of what is good and what is not really does not pay .

BTW, for a long time my favorite hotel in that general area was Vila Bukit, but I do not know if it is still closed or not. I heard someone bought it to turn into a super luxury hotel (stunning views) but then the downturn in tourism came and they went bust.

Apart from the very steep walkways and being quite a bit out of town, I also rate Ulun Ubud highly - they refurbished the hotel in 2002 / 2003 and it made such a difference.
