Default crime (law and anti-social behaviour) in SE Asia

hi peeps... i'm from the western world and am therefore rather unfamiliar with eastern cultures. I'm wondering... if I travelled to a south east asia... what would be the risks of being victim to crime, and if I were wrongly accused of being a criminal myself - how much faith could I have in the compassion of governments of SE Asian countries? Which countries would be most risky for a westerner to live in and what advice could you give to anyone who ever found themselves locked in a foreign prison cell (in the uk we hear stories about these things all the time happening in non-western countries!)
