Hi Vicki,

as Australians we don't need a visa for Thailand as long as your visit is less than 30 days. As for money changers they are everywhere and we never had a problem. Don't change any money in Aust. as you pay a commission on it - it is easier and you get a better rate over there. My advice would be to change a small amount at the airport just to cover your taxi and some drinks or food. Once you are in town money changers are everywhere.

As you have been to Bali before you will already have a rough idea what its like when you need to bargain.

I would also suggest that you do a bit of research on what there is on offer in Phuket. Saves wasting a lot of time once you are there trying to figure out what you should do.
