I know I'm a bit late to the discussion, but here's my two cents for the day:

Depends on what you plan on using it for. If it's just to check email and do the occasional bit of research or route planning, then leave it at home. Net cafes can be found easily and on the cheap.

If you work remotely, maintain a blog, plan on editing photos/video on road then you may want to take it with you.

Your usage will dictate your need.
