Clarke Quay is for NIGHTlife. nothing much in the day. the malls there are nothing compared to the malls in Orchard Road or even to Vivocity (which has great views of Sentosa).

And yes, the tip on taking the MRT is good. You will see how diverse Singapore has become. Chances are half the people sitting in the MRT with you are not Singaporeans, but foreigners who have migrated here for work etc.

If you take a taxi, start a conversation with the taxi drivers. There are always full of anecdotes which will enable you to learn more about local culture.
