Whiterabbit, I don't think it is donw by 50% anywhere in Thailand.

Regarding dirty beaches, overcrowding etc.: really depends on where you're talking about. One could also say Spain is overcrowded, but there are many nice, relaxed and quiet places in Spain, just as there are in Thailand. And even on a touristy island like Phuket are nice, relaxed and quiet places.
